What I Believe
Jesus is my Lord and Saviour. He died in agony on the cross because of my sin, so I can hardly deny him the control of my life.

Every Christian should model their life on Jesus. Churches should be loving communities in which everyone is valued for what they are - a child of Christ. We may fail - because we are human - but Jesus loves us even when we fail.

Why I Believe
I grew up in a Christian family which was as deeply involved in Baptist church life then as I am today. But no-one becomes a Christian by having Christian parents. I came to know Jesus for myself as a teenager. In September 1964, I was baptised by immersion at Worcester Park Baptist Church because I wanted to show that I had committed my life to Jesus as Lord. That was when I was 18.

People sometimes ask how I can reconcile my Christian faith with my scientific training. I am tempted to laugh at that question because (in common with many scientists) my scientific training has strengthened rather than shaken my faith. Instead, I try to explain how I can see the creative power and overwhelming love of God throughout his Universe.

Educated: PhD in chemistry at Bristol
