If you are reading this page then you are probably considering moving to the area or have just done so. Welcome! We hope that you will come to love the area as much as we do. As well as checking through the information below, have a look at the local Council's information for people Moving to the Area The area covered by Wot? is Teddington and the Hamptons - which includes Teddington, Hampton Wick, Hampton Court, Hampton Village, Hampton, and Hampton Nurserylands, and Hampton Hill. You can find some information about houses and estate agents in the area through Wot? Property. Because of its attractions, Teddington is a high price area to buy or rent houses and flats (although not as expensive as Richmond itself). Hampton house prices are slightly cheaper than Teddington.
Domestic Services and Shopping: If the local shops in Teddington and the Hamptons don't meet your needs, there is plenty of good shopping in Kingston and Richmond. We don't have a section called Wot? Shop because so few shops are online but if you want to find a local shop for anything you can use Wot? Domestic Service to locate shops and other local facilities.
Medical Services: To learn about local medical services visit Wot? Healthcare. You will find links there which will give you lists of doctors, dentists etc as well as details of the local hospitals.
Schools: There are plenty of good state and public schools in the area. Have a look at Wot? Education which also lists local places of further and higher education. The local state schools do not have sixth forms - for A-levels pupils go to the borough's Richmond Tertiary College or another tertiary or sixth form college in a neighbouring area. The main local private schools (Lady Eleanor Hollis and Hampton School) do have sixth forms.
Social Life: The area has ready access to many sources of entertainment which you can check out at Wot? Entertainment. There are also many social activities - see Wot? Club and Wot? Sport. Teddington is well known for its many restaurants along the High Street - see Wot? Restaurant. There are many community groups in the area which are also listed in Wot? Club. In Teddington, the leading one is The Teddington Society which is a non-party, non-sectarian community group which is "helping to make Teddington even better".
Spiritual Life: Naturally as this web site is provided by Teddington Baptist Church (TBC), we hope that you will be looking for a spiritual home in the area. Lots of people take the opportunity of a move of house to make a fresh start in their spiritual life, especially if they are concerned for the upbringing of their children.
If you do not find TBC to your taste for any reason, then have a look at Wot? Church to find out about the other Christian churches in the area.
Sport: Naturally living within range of so many soccer, cricket and rugby grounds (including Twickenham International Rugby Ground only a mile north of Teddington) there are plenty of sporting interests locally as set out in Wot? Sport.
Travel: Communications to London by train are good with frequent trains into Waterloo and a connection to the tube network at Richmond. For more information on local travel visit Wot? Travel. For those who have to fly abroad frequently, the area is very convenient for Heathrow (20 minutes maximum in the car and also accessible by the 285 bus). Gatwick is just under an hour away by car round the M25 but can also be reached in less than 75 minutes by train (changing at Clapham Junction). You may have been warned about aircraft noise in the area around Heathrow. Teddington, Hampton Wick, and Hampton Hill get planes taking off from Heathrow flying over them on fine weather days but because the planes fan out as they take off, they are not too frequent nor too noisy (apart from the Concorde roar which has to be heard to be believed). Hampton has relatively few planes taking off over it because they have to turn sharply south as they take off (right hand down a lot for the technically minded) to over-fly Hampton. When planes land they fly to the north of Twickenham on an east to west course so they do not cause Teddington and the Hamptons any disturbance.
Useful?: We hope that you have found this short summary useful - please let us know by e-mail if you would have found any other immediate information useful as you moved into the area. |
