Summary

Jesus teaches that true worship is not restricted to a particular building, place or style. Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done.

  • Worship is more than singing on a Sunday morning; it is a way of life.
  • Our worship includes praise, thanksgiving, obedience, surrender and reverence.
  • Worship belongs to God alone, because God alone is worthy of it.
  • The Bible shows worship being expressed in different ways: singing, silence, prayer, kneeling, raised hands, giving and serving.
  • Jesus teaches us to worship God “in the Spirit and in truth” — with sincere hearts and with a right understanding of God.
  • Our private relationship with God during the week affects the worship we bring when the church gathers.
  • We should not allow personal preferences such as music or the style of it to distract us from God.

Main thought:
Everybody worships something because worship is what receives our attention, affection and allegiance every day. Worship is not just a song – it is a life of surrender and obedience to God.
