Message by Jonathan Findlater
Main Scripture:
Deuteronomy 26:1–11
Summary:
Firstfruits is about more than giving to God; it is about giving God first place in our lives. What we prioritise reveals what matters most to us. God deserves our first and our best, not simply what we have left over.
- In Deuteronomy 26, the Israelites were instructed to offer the first portion of their harvest to God as an act of gratitude, trust and recognition of His provision.
- Cain and Abel’s offerings remind us that God is concerned not simply with what we give, but with the heart and priorities behind our giving.
- Proverbs 3:9–10 teaches us to honour God with our wealth and firstfruits, acknowledging that everything we possess ultimately comes from Him.
- Jesus Christ is our ultimate firstfruits. His resurrection marks the beginning of a greater harvest and assures believers of their future resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20).
- God gave us His very best — His Son, Jesus Christ. Our response should be one of gratitude, worship and wholehearted devotion.
- Our firstfruits today can include our time, money, gifts, energy and priorities. We honour God by putting Him first in every area of life.
- Giving God our first is not about earning His love but responding joyfully to the grace and generosity He has already shown us.
Main Thought:
We give God our first and not our leftovers. We give God our first not to earn His love but because He first gave us His very best, Jesus Christ.
